farrow & ball sample painting

There are some fun things that come with a renovation. For me its preparing the next step:

I ordered the Farrow & Ball color card to find the perfect white.
Again, Martin thinks I’m crazy a little bit too picky when it comes to “just white walls” but white is not always white and the tint is important for the look & feel of a room. There was a great article about the different whites on Design*Sponge a few weeks ago.
After I narrowed it down to my 4 favorite whites (and 3 tints for the bathroom ceiling) I ordered tiny sample pots and let me just tell you: Farrow & Ball is the net-a-porter for Renovators! The packaging was stunning (but of course also the paint was from exceptional quality!)
These are the 4 whites I ordered: welvet, ammonite, white tie and dimity.
I tried them on different spots in different rooms to see how they turn out next to the windows and in natural light during the day. I can highly recommend the sample paints it’s so important to see them “live” on your wall, next to your ceiling, floor, windows and light switches! Also Martin agreed that it was (probably still a crazy but also) a pretty good idea to do that.
As a resume I can tell that white tie couldn’t make it to the final ones. (its a little bit to yellowish for the wooden window frames). And after some back and forth Martin and I decided to go with strong white (not pictured) which is slightly whiter than Ammonite.
Can’t wait to see how it will turn out.

  1. I hope you never have to spot repair you walls after a couple years 🙂
That said, love your colour selection.

  2. Katharina,

Having worked for F&B I can confirm that strong white is a great choice. It’s a beautiful very light grey with a warmer undertone than blackened. White tie and dimity are very nice but they are definitely very yellow and pink for dimity and certainly more classic.
    Beautiful pictures by the way.
