Road trip through Austria – Vorarlberg

vorarlberg015
Our next stop after Salzburg was Vorarlberg, where we stayed with Anja and her ADORABLE family!
They live in Bezau, a small village in the middle of a region called Bregenzerwald.

Anja’s palsy-walsy with Gustav!

On our first day we took the ropeway up to the top of a (for me) huge mountain. Dogs were allowed but they had to wear a muzzle during the ride. Gustav was not amused when Martin put on the muzzle upside down… but he figured it out pretty quickly.

It was pretty bad weather up there but we had a good time. Drank some (typical Austrian) Almdudler lemonade and waited for Anjas Dad who ran up this mountain and biked downhill whith his bike… crazy! But I admire him for beeing such a cool dad and doing stuff like that …
did I already mention that Anja has the most heartwarming, cool and funny family you can imagine!? I truly feel at home when I’m with them!

The next day we had perfect weather and we drove to Bregenz to take a walk at the promenade. Bregenz feels like a town at the coast with this huge lake it has a certain mediterranean feel to it. Anja was the perfect guide so we ate the BEST icecream in western Austria (according to Anja’s Dad ! …and I have to agree with him!).

We came across the outdoor stage of the Bregenzer Festspiele. A annual event with sunning performances and a stage in the water. Here you can flip through a few of the last sceneries. This year it is Mozarts the Magic Flute.

After that we went to Dornbirn where we found the beautiful shop I talked about in one of our previous posts: DFshop
And with a fully packed car we drove back to Bezau where we had Raclette for dinner at an awesome place in the middle of the mountains with Anja’s family! Really enjoyed this evening! (melted cheese and nice people a killer combination!)

Going to share the last part of our journey next week. so stay tuned!

Road trip through Austria – Salzburg

roadtrip002
We’ve been hitting the road for the Easter weekend to visit some of our friends all over Austria.
We planed to travel through Salzburg to Vorarlberg. So we packed our bags, loaded the car and drove from Vienna to Salzburg.
Austria is a tiny country so we arrived at our first stop – Salzburg – 3 hours later.

We visited our friends Eva and Jacob: an Austrian-American newly-weds couple.
She’s a Graphic Designer and shop owner of Bows & Bandits, an online shop were you can buy beautiful Austrian vintage dresses and Jacob is an new-york-and-europe-based photographer. (yes, some people do have it all!)
Whenever Eva is in Austria we try to meet, so when we heared they are staying for a few weeks in Austria we didn’t hesitated to self-invite us in to their amazing apartment.

It was a beautiful Easter morning and we had a delicious breakfast with Eva, Jacob, Eva’s parents and her Granny!

Our next stop was Vorarlberg a tiny state next to the swiss boarder and totally worth a visit. There are a lot of creatives living in Vorarlberg and the architecture (traditional and new) is amazing!
We stayed with Anja (who already waited for us outside of her house … for hours!) and her family! Stay tuned for the next photos of a few days in Vorarlberg.
