The staircase was (after the sewer!) a never-ending-story of our renovation. We had several carpenters on location but nobody could give us a good solution. We have been thinking about some steep loft stairs or those narrow space saving stairs which work as a shelf (I love them but Martin is not a big fan of those solutions) so we worked and lived for month with our good old wooden ladder.
But between xmas and new year Martin and his grandpa (he’s a blacksmith!) worked on our final staircase and I love it!
The frame is made of metal with wooden stairs and a pretty solid oak-timber-base (photo on the right).
The parts fitted perfectly and we didn’t need to do any changes or slight adaptions… SCORE!
I couldn’t belive it … a task so big you thought you’ll never find a good and workable solution… but then like a miracle…
within half a day the stairs have been mounted!
Not the best AFTER photo.
But I guess you get the idea.. the first 2 steps are made of those beautiful old oak timber beams and then you step up on the metal/wood staircase. What do you think? I love them (but maybe I’m just blinded by the light… because climbing up that ladder with a huge 35 weeks baby bump is not very comfy!)
